• The M40/M42 motorway slip road, which is fast becoming known as "cut-throat junction" because it joins the motorway in the outside lane, has been criticised as "barmy" by a transport union official. Dennis Mills, Midlands representative for the Transport and General Workers Union, has written to the Department of Transport, urging it to revise the road layout, "The DTp says it is concerned and is looking into the junction, but we don't want a fatality before something is actually done about it."
