FOUR knights lead the full list of people with transport industry involvement who have been selected for New Year Honours.

They are Godfrey Messervy, chairman and chief executive of Lucas Industries; John Milne, chairman and group managing director of Blue Circle Industries; David Plastow, managing director and chief executive of Vickers; and, as mentioned in CM last week, Brian Shaw, chairman and chief executive of Furness Withy.

John Palmer, Department of Transport deputy secretary is now a Commander of the Bath, and there two new Members of the British Empire: Leslie Baldwin, coaching manager with Southern Vectis; and Fred Potts, group distribution director with William Timpson.

Orders of the British Empire have been awarded to Mike Hardy, county surveyor with Hertfordshire County Council and Col Hugh Mackay, director of the overseas department of the Save the Children Fund, with whom CM liaised in its Send a Spare Campaign to help transport operations in 1:mM-1e-stricken Ethiopia.

British Empire Medals have been awarded to: R. L. Allan a driver with Giddings and Lewis Fraser of Arboath; P. J. Arnold, a senior inspector with London Buses; A. R. Hogg, former head foreman of the welding shop of Brown Brothers; R. Horn, the recently retired inspector of Ribble Motor Services; and D. V. Swain, head attendant at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

In the Army List, several Royal Corps of Transport members have received New Year honours. Maj-Gen D. H. Braggins is a CBE, the OBE has gone to Col P. A. French, and MBEs have been awarded to Maj J. G. L. Murray, Maj P. M. Poole, and Maj J. M. Taylor. BEMs have been given to CO J. Asken; Staff Sgts J. Collins, S. Mellors, S. R. Please and K. M. Spencer; and Sgts E. D. K. Hawley and B. Szafran.
