Rhetoric's a funny thing. Cynics will tell you they can spot it a mile off. The rest of us just know a telling phrase when we hear one. And those phrases tend to stick with us throughout our years, echoing around our minds whenever a particular subject comes up for discussion. Maybe it's just about saying the right thing at the right time. So when John Fitzgerald Kennedy stood up on that bitterly cold January morning in 1961 he left his fellow Americans in no doubt that democracy was a two-way street. "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country" Corny? Perhaps. Rhetorical? Most certainly. But in less than a month the Chancellor will stand up and announce what he's going to do about fuel tax. And before he does, YOU, Mr Truck Operator, must let this Government know why it's got it wrong on diesel duty. Lose your voice now and it may never be heard again. So put the following date in your haulage diary:
