When it comes to giving their opinions it has to be said that taxi drivers are not backwards in coming forwards. Indeed they are renowned for preaching from the driving seat to the captive congregation sitting in the back. It seems only fitting, then, that some cabbies have taken the opportunity to reach a wider audience. The church of St John the Baptist in Halesowen, West Midlands, had to change its PA system when it began picking up taxi messages in the middle of sermons. It has been forced to fork out .5,500 on a new system, as church warden Ivor Shilvock explains: "The old system was on its last legs and people had complained about strange noises from taxis and other businesses in the middle or services." I can picture it now.. 'The Lord took the bread and broke it and gave it to his disciples saying. ..haven't you anything smaller guy, I can't change that."
