• National Windscreens of Tamworth, Staffordshire, is now offering its fleet customers a Home-Base Fitting service which allows operators to have damaged windscreens repaired at their own premises, at a time of their choice, outside the vehicle's normal operating schedule.

The scheme, which applies to both conventionally fitted laminated screens, as well as directly-bonded units, is intended to keep vehicle downtime to a minimum. In the case of fleet cars or vans, the home base can even be the driver's own home.

According to the company, with most commercial vehicles now fitted with laminated screens there is seldom a need to have a cracked or chipped unit replaced immediately, as most cracks do not affect vision or safety.

Vehicles with bonded screens, however, must be left for a few hours after the new screen is fitted. By using Home Base Fitting no time is wasted.

Each driver is issued with a Fleet Service Card, and for any necessary repairs he simply has to call National on 0800 (free) 633 133.

The 24-hour service is available from over 100 National Windscreen branches, and will operate alongside the company's normal roadside fitting scheme. For details call Ray Walters on (0827) 52925.
