It is proposed that European Community countries should carry out simultaneous checks four times each year.
The draft directive suggests that these EC-wide checks should take place on the third working Mondays 1-5 of January, April, July and October.
Every three months, EC countries would be obliged to inform eachother of breaches of the rules by foreign drivers and the level of penalties imposed. The European Commission adopted the scheme last Wednesday (3 February).
