London-based Davies Turner and an Italian company, Jacky Maeder, are running at least six groupage trailers a week between London and Milan, Florence, Turin and Naples, with about 90 per cent of vehicles and drivers being British.
Costs for the service have been cut to the minimum by running continuous round trips, and trailers leaving London on a Friday night are in Naples early on Monday morning.
Plans are being made for extending the service to run imports direct to Davies Turner's depot at the Manchester International Freight Terminal.
