STUDENTS in the motor vehicle section of the Evesham College of Further Education have completely rebuilt the first Volvo 858 coach chassis to be im ported into Britain.
The chassis was initially brought to Britain in 1972 and fitted with an Alexander dual purpose body.
It is now owned by Astons of Droitwich who removed the Alexander body.
Apprentices led by instructor John Darby then completely stripped and overhauled the 11m chassis, which was then lengthed by a Walsall company, before being shipped to Belgium to be fitted with a new Van Hool Alizee coach body.
The coach has now re-entered service complete with its new body although still with its original engine.
The company has also taken delivery of the first of two new Volvo B10Ms with Duple Caribbean bodies. They are used for Continental touring work with school parties.
