THE MAN largely responsible for the setting up of the South Yorkshire Road Haulage Association has died.

Eddie Shaw, who was involved in transport for 56 years, was the first South Yorkshire RHA area chairman in 1945 and in 1978 received life membership. At the time of his death he was honorary secretary of the South Yorks Hauliers Training Group.

Mr Shaw started his transport career in 1928 and in 1951 he moved to Sheffield to acquire Caudles Removals, another family firm, and then Tuffnells Parcel Carriers, later taken over by the Transport Development Group in 1972.

For 30 years he was a director of the local hauliers' consortium, Sheffield Haulage and Storage and for 17 years was a representative to the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.
