Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Due to a misprint, you quote me as saying (CM, January 28) that the German rail industry has grown by 90 per cent over the past 10 years. It should, of course, be the road transport industry.

In the same report — evidence to the Select Committee on nationalised industries — the FTA is quoted as saying that extra taxation on heavy vaincles would be acceptable, provided that lighter vehicles paid less, ie the total taxation on industry was not increased. That is correct, but only if it is eventually proved that heavier vehicles do not cover their track costs; and the argument is still going on.
