• "Associated Deliveries Ltd give Chiltonian Biscuits effective national distribution at a cost favourable by comparison with any practicable alternative methods of warehousing and delivery without sacrificing efficiency", said Mr Leonard Askew, commercial manager of Chiltonian Ltd. the biscuit manufacturers, at a recent meeting of ADL member corn panics.

"This has meant that in the five years' association between the two companies we have been able to complete the progression from regional to national distribution without losing the tight control essential for distribution of food products", he said.

"Physically and economically it would not have been possible to consider tackling the problem by the company itself."

Mr Askew commented that distribution through the chain of 14 ADL depots had enabled his company to increase market penetration in some areas by as much as 70 per cent. He also reported that in five years there had been only three instances of pilferage from ADL depots and product damage was very low. Stock rotation was excellent and 20 per cent of all goods ordered were on sale within two days of the order being received in the depots, and 90 per cent within five days.
