A MEETING of the North Staffordshire " Hauliers Association management committee on Wednesday morning decided unanimously to press ahead with plans to provide full services for hauliers in the area from offices at Wedgwood Place, Burslem.
Negotiations are being conducted for experienced full-time staff to start by April 1. A mass meeting of hauliers in the Potteries will be called later this month to publicize the non-profit making association and report the circumstances leading to its formation.
Since our exclusive report of the association's formation (COMMERCIAL MOTOR January 28 and last week) a membership of 200 has been claimed; one-third have already paid their subscriptions, which are equivalent to RHA rates.
Hauliers in the area represented on the management committee of the new association are: Beresford Transport Ltd.; Rutland Bulk Transport Ltd.; Percy Hall and Co. Ltd.: Knight and Riley Ltd.: Longton and North Staffs Transport Ltd.; Maiden and Ellis Transport Ltd.: Potteries Independent Road Transport Ltd.; Norman Green (Fenton) Ltd.: W. and J. Wass Ltd.: S. Cope (Transport) Ltd.; Smith's Transport Services; B. Kettle and Co. Ltd.; C. and A. Forrester and Sons Ltd.; A. Mould and Son; R. C. Nixon; G. A. Britton; and Bassetts Roadways Ltd., including Grayswood Transport Ltd.
After the management committee meeting. one member commented: "We hope, in the future, that by our activities we will prove to the RHA that the Potteries deserve area status."
Details of the RHA national council decision revealed in COMMERCIAL MOTOR last week, were to be given to members on Wednesday evening (February 91. A general meeting of RHA members in the district was called for that evening, and West Midland area chairman. A. C. W. Neely, was to be present.
