Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DRELIMINARY talks are being held between a number of commercial vehicle distributors in the UK and the Dutch company, Van Doorne's Automobielfabriek N.V. Eindhoven, concerning the marketing of certain DAF vehicles in this country. Two models are to be made available. The 1900 series is built as a load-carrying truck with payload capacities of up to 14 tons, and the 1800 tractive unit is suitable for operation at 24-28 tons g.t.w.

Both vehicles are fitted with six-cylinder, direct-injection, turbocharged diesel engines having a maximum b.h.p. output of 165 at 2,400 r.p.m. A six-speed, constant-mesh gearbox is used on both models and singleor two-speed axles are available having ratios of 5.27 or 6.43 to 1 in the singlespeed unit and 8.54 and 6.14 to 1 in the two-speed unit.

Chassis frames are of all-welded construction and are fabricated for channel-section pressings with reinforcing angles where required. Among the optional extras are an exhaust brake, various p.t.o. and a de-luxe cab.

A DAF official told COmMERCIALMOToR this week that particular interest had been shown by British distributors in the tractive unit models.

The DAF company manufactures a wide range of transport vehicles which includes light vans, medium-weight and heavy-weight trucks, lorries, prime movers, semiand draw-bar trailers.
