Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

that of the atmosphere can give a remarkable degree of insulation from shock, and, provided the container in which it is housed be properly designed, it will serve almost indefinitely.

Air, of course, is the medium of suspension used in the Moseley Float-on Air upholsteryfor passenger-carrying vehicles. • Amongst the advantages claimedfor this system that of great.

comfort is obviously to the fore. A cushion of this type can conform equally . well to the figure of the smallest child or to that.of a 20-stone passenger. This comfort is not obtained at the expense of a bulky seat,: for. a , 5-in, air-space depth is all that is required.

Another important advantage is that there is no rebound after an impact, thus uncomfortable bouncing action is • cut out. • . Float-on-Air upholstery is hygienic because it cannot harbour moths, and there is no stuffing to go mouldy if the vehicle be housed in a damp garage. The pneumatic system can be re-inflated at any time ; metal springs. of course, have to be renewed if a cushion or squab loses its shape badly.

The appearance of a pneumatic cushion is indistinguishable from that of one having a spring base, therefore, the risk of malicious damage is not so great as might be imagined.

In the Float-on-Air system, a tube or tubes are arranged in folds within an outer cover. This system must not be confused with a cushion of the air bag type. There is no tendency to side-roll, as the tubes act as baffles, checking the passage of air from one part of the cushion to another.

For coaches or buses a wide range of seatiug.equipment is offered by David Moseley and Sons, Lta., Chepel Field . Works, ...irdwick,,,Manchester._ Exist

lug upholstery can be converted to the Float-on-Air principle and• new vehicles can be supplied with cushions and squabs of this type.

In the case of cushions intended for double scats, each occupant is supported by a separately inflated tube, thus the load at one end of the seat does not affect that at tile other, so that a small child and a heavy man can be seated side by side, each obtaining full individual comfort. The tubes are mounted with the folds from front to back, one fold running the full width et the front of the seat for one person ; at

the rear of the cushion a flap is provided to give access to the tubes and to the introverting valves which are used for inflating purposes.

Conversion of metal-spring-type seats to the Float-on-Air system can he carried out easily and cheaply. The spring frame is removed and the ends of the cushion are stiffened slightly ; a firm wooden base is used, a flap is provided at the rear, • and the Float-on-Air tube can then be inserted, moved to the correct position and inflated ready for immediate service.
