• Scottish DIC Richard MacFarlane has lifted the suspension of one of the two vehicles operated by Stonehaven-based Stewart Adam, imposed when Adam failed to attend a previous public inquiry. But at a new inquiry in Aberdeen, MacFarlane said the suspension of the second vehicle would remain in force until the VI was satisfied it was roadworthy.

No calibration

• The Lichfield Magistrates have fined Sutton Coldfieldbased William Freeman & Sons 000 for failing to have a two-year tachograph calibration check carried out on a vehicle it operates.

Wrong date

• Birmingham driver Michael Nlessenger, who had pleaded guilty to a 4.5-hour driving offence, had his conviction quashed by the city's magistrates after solicitor Michael Carless had pointed out that he had been charged with committing the offence on the wrong date. The Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence and the case was dismissed.

• Faversham-based John Smith, trading as Smith International, is appealing to the Transport Tribunal against South Eastern & Metropolitan TC Brigadier Michael Turner's suspension of one of his vehicles for three weeks.
