TRANSPORT Secretary David Howell has repeated his call for local authorities to use their powers to control lorry movements and parking.
Hauliers have to accept the over-riding need for additional restrictions, and the existing powers had to be used more vigorously, he told the Commons.
The decisions on Transport Supplementary Grant would be influenced by the efforts county councils made of the powers available to them to restrict the movement of heavy lorries, he said.
