On November 3 at Leamington Spa the RTITB held a final session, including a course assessment by participants, in the first of its Business Improvement Group schemes to be run in the road haulage sector; an earlier one, at Weston-super-Mare, was for the motor trade.

The BIG formula is a follow-through of the TASC (Training Assistance in Small Companies) project. In this case it involved 12 haulage companies with from 14 to 40 vehicles apiece 1273 vehicles, 39 managers and 379 other personnel in all) covering a wide variety of haulage activities. Meetings on one day a month for seven months covered such subjects as financial appreciation, appraisal of operations and organization, management skills, vehicle costing and
