• In Birmingham on Friday. Coleman and Co (Plant Hire) Ltd, of Stetchford, had its margin of seven vehicles deleted and three vehicles and one trailer removed for four months from the licence which authorized a total of 22 vehicles and three trailers. The West Midland LA, Mr John Else, considered that the company, which had been called under section 69(1) of the 1968 Act, had not fulfilled its statements of intent concerning maintenance arrangements and the keeping of records.

The company had been convicted of eight overloading offences at Oldbury in September, and a visit to the firm by an examiner on September 7 resulted in three delayed and two immediate GV9s being issued. The examiner told the court that Mr J. E. Coleman Stir, refused to sign the GV9s and became extremely unco-operative. The base was not suitable, the court was told, there being no ramp or pit, no hardstanding outside the garage, and covered accommodation for only one vehicle.

Mr D. E. Skelding, for the company, said that three days before the examination all the vehicles had passed successfully through a roadside test. Vehicle maintenance records could not be produced because vandals had destroyed them in a break-in.

Mr D. J. Coleman, a director of the company, assured the LA that preventive maintenance inspections and repairs had now been arranged and drivers issued with log sheets.
