John Holgate George Pinkney George W. Pinkney, a London bus conductor, and John Holgate, a Security Express driver/ guard, have been awarded the British Empire Medal for bravery and they were also among 16 courageous citizens presented with Binney Memorial awards by the Lord Mayor of London on December 3. The awards are made annually by the Goldsmiths Company in recognition of civilian acts of bravery in support of law and order. Mr Pinkney, 60, of Forest Gate, E7. tackled a yang of armed bank robbers, when he was struck down by an iron bar and then injured in both feet by a shotgun blast. Mr Holgate, of Mitcham. fought off gunmen who attacked his vehicle: he rescued a colleague and saved ,the cash load in the van.

Gordon L. Hutchins has been appointed commercial manager of the recently formed service division of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd: T. C. Bennett becomes general sales manager (vehicles and parts) and W. H. Walling general service manager. Stuart Eden-Smith is sales and service director.

D. Millburn, formerly training officer of Allisons Freightlines Ltd, Dundee, has been appointed group training officer to the recently formed South West London Group Training Association.

John McHugh has been appointed group director of engineering of the Duple Motor Bodies group of companies. Geoff Church has also been appointed to the parent company board and Duple Coachbuilders Ltd. which is the Blackpool manufacturing company. H. J. Bigg, formerly general manager until six years ago, has rejoined Duple Coachbuilders as managing director. John Ruddy, previously chief designer and development engineer at Plaxtons of Scarborough, becomes technical director of Bifort Engineering Ltd. Roy Smirk, previously a senior sales executive at Plaxtons of Scarborough, and Bill Hayward have joined the Duple group sales team. G. A. H. Payze, for many years a Duple director, has agreed to postpone his retirement and remain on the board of Duple Group Sales Ltd as a special consultant. The Hendon works is now to be kept open as a South of England service centre and W. Back will stay on there as service manager.

Alan McFarlin has been appointed managing director of UBM Transport, Bristol. He was formerly chairman of Reece Blatchford Services Ltd and remains a director of South Western Traffics Ltd.

H. P. Wynn and G. P. Wynn will relinquish at their own request, as from January 1 1971, the joint general managership of Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd, of Newport, Mon. Both will remain on the board, Mr H. P. Wynn as deputy chairman and Mr G. P. Wynn as consultant. As from January 1, Noel R. Wynn will be appointed general -anager and R. 0. J. Wynn assistant general manager.

John Hobbs has been appointed to the board of ERF Moldings) Ltd as financial director. Mr Hobbs continues to serve as secretary to the group and on the board of ERF Ltd, the main operating subsidiary.

Obituary We record with regret the death, in London on December 2. of Charles Boyd White, aged 61, managing director and deputy chairman of United Transport Overseas Ltd and joint managing director of United Transport Co Ltd, of Chepstow. After World. War II service in the Royal Navy Mr Boyd White went to Central Africa and when, in 1955. United Transport acquired the North Charterland Transport Company in Nyasaland, of which he was the managing director, he joined the Chepstow based Group. In 1963 United Transport Overseas was formed and the London hq was established with Mr Boyd White as managing director.
