Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A dual-purpose bulk vehicle discharge system has been developed by Carmichael and Sons (Worcester) Ltd, engineering division, Gregory's Mill Street, Worcester WR3 8BE, to enable the material to be discharged by gravity as well as pneumatically and to facilitate easy cleaning of the tank and aeration pad. It also simplifies replacement of the aeration pad.

The system is equipped with a large pivotally-mounted butterfly valve which incorporates the pad and provides aeration in the normal way in the closed position. The outlet is covered by a plate that is held on by four T nuts and when this has been removed the valve can be rotated by an external lever through 90 deg. It can then be used to give controlled discharge which is of special importance when the material is transferred by a conveyor from the vehicle to a storage container that can only accept material at a relatively low rate.

In this picture of the Carmichael dual-purpose bulk discharge system, the cover of the aeration-pad/butterfly valve unit has been removed. The valve can be rotated by an external handle to give controlled discharge by gravity.
