Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Bedford TK lorries is now available from Vauxhall/Bedford dealers. This takes the form of a non-return valve inserted in the hydraulic line to the rear brakes. Controlled by a small lever placed in front of the driver's seat, it is used to maintain hydraulic pressure after the brake pedal has been depressed. As soon as the valve is released the system returns to normal. If the valve is closed when the brakes are hot it is necessary to depress the brake pedal at five-minute intervals to ensure that the rear wheelS remain fully locked.

The device is claimed to be particularly useful on specialpurpose TKs such as fire appliances, hydraulic lifts, and so on, since it removes any possibility of vehicle movement due to transmission tolerances—the series TIC parking brake on all models being a transmission brake. It also provides an extra safety factor in the event of axle shaft failure.

At present the basic kit (Part No. 7154568) is for right-drive vehicles only; there is, however, a choice of two supplementary kits—one for tractor units (Part No. 7154616), the other (Part No. 7154618) for all other models.

Made by: Vauxhall Motors Ltd., Luton. Beds.

Prices: Basic kit (Part No. 7154568), £12; supplementary kits (Part Nos. 7154616 and 7154618), £1 12s. 6d. each.
