Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CABS of agricultural and industrial tractors should be constructed so that drivers, when using the vehicles on the road, can have adequate visibility. Where cabs make it impracticable for drivers to give hand signals, mechanical direction indicators and stop lights should be fitted.

This is the effect of a notice issued by the Ministry of Transport last week. It adds that, whilst the Ministry are not anxious to make regulations to ensure that all tractors intended for road use are built to a rigid legal specification, the points made should be considered in the interests of road safety.

GATESHEAD TRAFFIC BAN

TRAFFIC will be banned from High Street, Gateshead, for six weeks from January 4, to facilitate the completion of the new by-pass from Felling. To prevent congestion, heavy loads will be allowed to cross Tyne Bridge only between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Vehicles too long to negotiate corners involved in the diversions may have to travel 60 miles to Carlisle to reach a suitable bridge.

MORE RAIL COMPETITION

NEITHER coastal shipping nor road transport could ignore the prospect of increased competition from the railways brought about by greater efficiency, This statement is made in the latest issue of the journal of Tyneside Chamber of Commerce.
