TRANSPORT FOR London (TfL) says its Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) will remain free to access for hauliers.
Last December it was revealed that FORS was being reviewed to see if a membership fee could be introduced. However, a TfL spokesman says the scheme, which has 748 registered organisations representing more than 80,000 vehicles, will remain free to members for the foreseeable future.
He told CM: “TfL is investigating how to inance the scheme while improving the beneits.”
It has elected to hand administration of the scheme, previously handled by AA DriveTech, to the consultancy arm of the Freight Transport Association (FTA). Despite taking on the accreditation of FORS, Natalie Chapman, head of policy at the FTA, says the organisation will continue to push for additional beneits for its members, such as a lighter touch regarding PCNs.
