In October 2009, the Hazchem Network launched a nationwide ADR parcel delivery service designed to tap into what Karim saw as a gap in the market.
Trucks from member companies carry parcels up to 30kg inside special wooden boxes or cardboard crates, although every delivery of more than 30kg in weight still has to be carried on a pallet.
Karim says: “2009 was an extremely tough year, but we decided to set up the new service.
“A lot of general parcel carriers are moving away from ADR as it isn’t cost effective for them to have a network of ADR drivers, so there is an increasing demand for this service.”
