MI Perkins Engines in Peterborough has just announced a major collaboration deal with Pegaso, under which Pegaso will market the British-built diesels in Spain from September of this year.
The agreement covers the 100-series, the 500-series, the 1,000-series and the Phaser engines.
A new division, Pegaso Motor, will be established and a joint development and test programme has also been agreed between research and development engineers at Perkins' 240 million engineering complex in Peterborough and Pegaso's Technical Centre in Barcelona.
The aim is to exploit the experience and expertise of both sets of engineers in the area of high performance diesels, and in the development of a new range of mediumsized engines, says Perkins.
The agreement also means that Pegaso vehicles will be allowed to use Perkins automotive engines in future. The award-winning Phaser engine is already offered by Pegaso's wholly-owned UK subsidiary, Seddon Atkinson.
The combined Perkins and Pegaso engine range will be the most complete line-up of diesel power in Spain, says Perkins, and the new company will also offer the country's largest diesel engine service and after-sales network.
The latest arrangement with Pegaso in Spain follows a similar announcement earlier this year of a major collaboration between Perkins and the US-based Detroit Diesel Corporation. That agreement has just been finalised.
