a lorry driver from drowning in the River Clwyd, could be nominated for a bravery award.
The accident happened on a 16th-century bridge in Rhudd tan when a Manweb lorry, carrying a hydraulic platform, demolished part of the stone wall and plunged into the river.
Ron Evans, who was driving his car behind the lorry, dived into the river and tried to rescue the driver Leonard Cory from Old Colwyn, but he was trapped underwater in his cab. His body was eventually freed by two firemen, using breathing apparatus.
The bridge was closed for three hours and traffic was diverted as a crane lifted the lorry out of the river.
