• Hillsdown Distribution maintenance division HDL Engineering has bought Southern Mobile Services of London, which runs a 10-bay commercial vehicle workshop and tachograph calibration station.
SMS, of Charlton, has a turnover of £1 million and will trade under the HDL name, specialising in servicing and maintenance for third-party haulage operators. Former owner John Lawrence will continue as manager.
The acquisition gives HDL its first depot in London and brings its total nationwide to 11. It plans to open further depots this year.
