ASIX-MONTH-OLD trailer returned to the manufacturer with fractures in the running gear and chassis; a complete review of a commercial vehicle maintenance system with a major increase in staff and immediate replacement of 20 per cent of the vehicles in the fleet; a complete change of vehicle replacement policy after a report on the braking standards and stability of existing vehicles.
These, said Mr. J. P. Grierson, Scottish divisional chairman, this week, are some of the "real" results in Scotland of the first inspections carried out by the TRTA main tenance inspection service.
"This is not bad going for a service initially conceived to protect the user from the severe legal consequences of operating defective vehicles".
He stressed that since March this year 20 Scottish operators had placed their operating licences in jeopardy because of MoT dissatisfaction with maintenance standards. "We are confident that members making proper use of our service will be free from this risk".
