£500,000 ORDER FOR SCAMMELL: British Railways have ordered 300 Scammel Scarab tractive units and 862 Scammer semi-trailers worth in all £500,000. The tractors will be 6-ton petroland dieset engined models and 3-ton petrol-engines models. The trailers range from 3to 12. ton capacity models.

1540M. ON ROADS

ABOUT £540m. will be spent on road construction over the five years ending 1966-67, said Mr. MarpIes in the Commons last week. Spending during the next financial year would be £90.5m. and during that 12 months work on trunk roads would be increased by about 50 per cent.

Scotland's programme was described by Mr. John Maclay, the Secretary of State. He said that next year's expenditure of £12m, would increase annually to give a total of approximately £67.5m. over the five-year period 1962-67. Here, too, trunk road building would be increased.
