Continental Tests.
The recent fire-brigade camp at Spa has been the scene of several interesting comparative tests between English-built and German-built engines. Great interest was shown in the performances of the Dennis turbine engine, of which so many examples are on order, and this outfit again maintained its reputation for effectiveness.
Torquay's Anticipation?.
A Sub-committee of Torquay Town Council has under consideration sites for a proposed new fire station. The water engineer (Mr. S. C. Chapman) proposes that the equipment of the suggested new station be postponed until such time as the transfer of the present engines and escapes to motor chassis can be recommended. Estimates have been drawn up which show a saving of .E.S7 a year in favour of motor appliances and a new station.
Londonderry Hesitates.
Mr. .James Trimble, the Superintendent of the Londonderry Fire Brigade, is an ardent believer in the merits of motor propulsion, and his views are
supported by Alderman R. N. Anderson, the Chairman of the Water and Fire Brigade Committee of Ireland's most-historic city. A beginning is likely to be made with a motor fireescape and tender, although certain members of the Council do not appear to be willing to move with the times. We hope Derry will not find itself left in the lurch by certain places in the south of Ireland, which unenviable situation—from the standpoint of the north—looks not unlikely of achievement if the local opponents to progress are not converted soon.
