new trucks on show, visitors to the NEC were left in no doubt that Euro-6 is nearly upon us. But anyone concerned about the imminent arrival of the latest round of emissions regulations can take some comfort from Elddis Transport MD Nigel Cook, who has trialled the technology.

The Consett-based company operated Euro-5 and Euro-6 versions of Mercedes-Benz's Actros units side by side for six weeks last year and was impressed with the results. "The Euro-6 [New Actros] was just 0.1mpg worse than Euro-5 [old shape]," he said. "For years we've been told that Euro-6 is going to be the end of the world, but it really isn't.
