Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THOSE OF US who work in the transport industry are constantly told we play a vital role in keeping the country's economy on the move, if you pardon the pun.

Our industry relies on an efficient and well-funded infrastructure, so why is it we face such a challenge to ensure that we get the support that we badly need?

Simarco is one of approximately 200 freight firms in Essex. The sector is further bolstered by the presence of major air and river ports, including the London Gateway development, which is under construction at Thun-ock.

However, for a county whose economy is worth £28bn a year, investment in major capital transport projects in the area is among the lowest in the country. While it's difficult to determine the exact level of transport spending, given that it is met by both central and local government, many of us feel Essex gets a raw deal.

I recently attended a meeting at Westminster with a number of the county's 1VIT's and local businesses, all of whom are eager to find an answer. Further sessions are scheduled in the coming months with planning and transport ministers. Simon Reed MD, Simarco, Witham, Essex
