What is described as the "cushioned action" of Cratex abrasives is stated to give improved and quicker results in smoothing, polishing, cleaning, deburring and other operations. There are numerous applications in vehicle and engine re-conditioning, in particular Cratcx blocks may be used for renovating commutators of electric motors and dynamos to obtain a highly polished surface. The abrasives may also be employed to remove rust from bodywork. The products are manufactured in many sizes in points, wheels, blocks, sticks and cones.

Finer Surforms FOUR new Surform tools have been introduced by Simmonds Aeroeessories, Ltd., Treforest, Glamorgan, for work which requires more precision than can be obtained from the popular generalpurpose tool. The Surform block plane has a fine blade, and a fine-cut tile is designed to cut mild steel and other tough materials smoothly an cleanly.

Stated to be of particular value for trimming and smoothing metal bodywork, the convex plane is another fine tool, and the half-round file is intended for application to concrete surfaces.

Prices of these tools with the costs of replacement blades in parentheses are as follows: block plane, 10s. (2s, 9d.); fine-cut file, 12s. 6d. (3s. 6d.); convex plane, 17s, 6d. (3s. 6d.); half-round file, 13s. (4s. 3d.).

Polyether Foam AFTER carrying oat extensive research work in this country and America, the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., have produced a polyether foam cushioning material expected to have many applications for bus seating because, weight for weight, it will support a greater load than latex foam. It is derived from raw materials obtainable from the petroleum and coal tar industries.

1-oz. Grease Gun ASMALL •high-pressure hand gun for heavy oil and soft grease has been introduced by Tecalemit, Ltd., Plymouth, Devon. Known as the Minigun, the tool is of diecast construction, 61 in. long when fully charged. With a capacity of 1 oz., it weighs only 71 oz. It is supplied with a Tecazerk nozzle and is intended primarily for the kits of lightweight vehicles and small machines. It is sold at 8s.

Mobile Battery Charger nALE ELECTRIC, LTD., of Filey, Yorks, have introduced a 1,500-W. 24-37-v. D.C. 62-47-amp. battery charger. The unit is powered by a Villiers Mark 20 air-cooled fourstroke industrial engine close-coupled to a single bearing I.5-kW. shunt-wound dynamo. The complete unit is designed to run at 7,600 r.p.m.

The control panel is provided with an output voltmeter and ammeter, hand field V olt age regulator, auto-battery cut-out, main switch, connection terminals and a Hydraulic Motors A LEAFLET describing their new 1-1, displacement hydraulic motors, has been issued by Edbro-B. and E. Tippers, Ltd., Quebec Street, Bolton, Lancs. Two types of pump are dealt with: the 1-1MA.1, which develops 5.8 h.p., and the HMA.2, which is rated at 11.54 h.p. Both pumps, which are of the axial-piston type, are six-cylindered models and are notable for their small size and light weight.

The motors are claimed to give simplified methods of power transmission by eliminating the necessity of complicated gearing and clutch mechanism for changing speeds. The motors can be powered by any standard Edbro-B. and E. hydraulic pump.

Timber Destroyers HAVOC created in timber by various fungi and boring insects has to be seen to be fully realized, and vehicle bodywork is among the fabrications susceptible to attack. Cuprinol, Ltd., Terminal House, Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1, have published an informative booklet, price 2s. 6d., called "The Enemies of Timber" which outlines and illustrates the devastating effects of rot in wood.

These can be minimized and in many cases prevented altogether, it is stated, by the application of Cuprinol, a metallic naphthenate carried in a spirit solvent. The booklet details the wide range of applications for which the preservative is intended.

No Slipping A LTHOUGH primarily intended for ,f-A floors, Safety-Walk non-slip material, a new product of the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Ltd., may be used on vehicles, particularly for the treads of steps.

It comprises bard mineral grains coated on a tough fabric which may be applied to concrete, wood or metal. Different grades, including one conferring low fire risk, are offered, and the material is stated to he hard-wearing and resistant to water, oil and petrol, as well as extremes of temperature.
