The Motorbus in Potsdam.
Nothing is sacred to the motorbus ! It has penetrated even into Potsdam, the German Emperor's " zweite Residenzstadt," and has imparted a touch of modernity and enterprise to a town which wears an air of dreary stiffness and, as far as traffic is concerned, has hitherto displayed a remarkable apathy to progress. To the director of the Allgemeine Potsdarner Automobil-Omnibus-Gesellschaft, the company which is helping to modernise Potsdam's street traffic, I am indebted for a few particulars respecting the rolling stock, lines worked, and fares charged, First, as to the stock : this consists of two " Marienfeldes " and four Stoewers, together with trailers, the company being authorised to use the latter to meet any
pressure on traffic. Two of the Daimlers are double-deckers, as are, also, a couple of Stoewers. The accompanying illustration shows two of the Stoewer vehicles, recently delivered to the company, about to start from Stettin for their destination. The horse-power of the Daimlers does not exceed 30, or sh.p. less than that of the Stettin make ; whilst the carrying powers, expressed in number of passengers, are 37 and 43 for the respective double-deckers. With these six motor vehicles and trailers, three lines are worked :— 1. Alter Markt (Potsdarn)—Neuendorf, which is about i mile 974 yards long, the fare being to pfennigs (1.25d.) for the whole distance, or any part thereof.
2. Waisen and Brandenburger E_cke
(Potsdam)—Nedlitz, a route which extends over 2 miles 854 yards. Fare for the whole distance, 20 pfennings (2.5d.), with fares of to pfennigs and 15 pfennigs (x.875d.) for intermediate and proportional sections.
3. This connects up Zehlendorf with Klein-Machnow, and constitutes a longdesired link between the railway stations. Fare and distance correspond to those set down for Line 1. KleinMachnow is dose to Potsdam.
