• The licence of Derby ownerdriver Raymond Godsmark has been renewed, subject to the production of a maintenance contract with a commercial garage. North Western LA Martin Albu heard that Godsmark's vehicle had twice received prohibitions, despite prior warning of the vehicle examiners' visits.

Department of Transport vehicle examiner Tan Harrison said he had imposed an immediate prohibition on Godsmark's concrete mixer vehicle in May. There was a contract with a commercial garage for major repairs but the garage had only worked on the vehicle once.

Godsmark's maintenance facilities were very limited; he had no pit or covered workshop. The average period between inspection was three months, which was far too long. A recent visit showed no change in the maintenance arrangements and, on examination, the vehicle was given a delayed prohibition.

Godsmark said he had been "gobsmacked" when the vehicle examiner found a cut tyre as a major tyre company had just inspected the vehicle. He just had been unable to believe that the second and third axle offside brakes were inoperative as there had been very little difference in the brake pressure.
