Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The contract to transport the first of the giant 650 tonne Channel Tunnel boring machines has been won by two Scottish hauliers.

Paisley-based McKelvie Transport and St Johnstonebased W H Malcolm will start transporting parts of the machine from Glasgow to Dover this week.

Glasgow heavy engineering company James Bowden will load the 30 tonne cutting head of the first machine on a three day journey which will be controlled throughout by the police.

A further 73 loads will be necessary to transport all the parts of the £200m machine.

A spokesman for James Bowden says McKelvie Transport and W H Malcolm will be likely to transport the second Channel Tunnel boring machine, which is currently being manufactured.

James Howden has also won contracts to build two larger boring machines of 1200 tonnes for the main tunnels. Pickfords Heavy Haulage is likely to be brought in to help with this work.

The new drilling machine will be the first of six deployed from Britain and five deployed from France on the excavating work.
