I HAVE READ with deep concern the article (CM August 20) which I understand is the result of an interview given by Patrick Jones and obviously taken very much out of context.
The article as presented is something one would not expect to see in a serious minded motor magazine and obviously your Mr David Wilcox is not particularly clued up on the workings of I.C. engines. I would very much like to know what prompted this article and what action was taken by you to verify claims or otherwise.
The tests carried out by Etna Engineering Ltd were to the recognised standards (as can be seen from the enclosed report) and are repeatable worldwide and are not "claims" as stated in the above article. It is generally accepted by Motor Testing Centres that constant speed tests do not reflect overall performance as can be seen from the report. Why some motoring correspondents throw the emphasis on to alleged statements made to them by third parties to keep lily-white instead of substantiating or otherwise for the benefit of their audiences must surely question the credibility of the magazine. In the case of the Gefarator the tests are repeatable by Mira or any recognised body.
The development of the Gefarator is intended to allow more complete combustion thus increasing torque and bhp while substantially reducing emissions and as a consequence save fuel. It is also a big step forward in pollution control and we hope with some more research will allow current engines to run on lead-free petrol without detriment to the engine.
