LEYLAND will keep its opi open to meet the proposed noise regulations for buses coaches due in 1986 — if company's continuously u ble transmission (CVT} is E able by then.
The proposed regulat limit the noise to 80dbA vehicles with engines of than 150kW (201bhp) and if the power output exceeth figure.
They are scheduled to apr October 1986 for new types October 1988 for new regi tions.
Leyland Bus technical dire David Burnicle, told CM if the CVT was to be availabl 1986 then the intake, ex and injection timing coulc modified to be less of a conmise.
He also claimed that it w be possible to use an engir smaller capacity because o lower duty cycle which coul achieved with a CVT.
It would be possible to op within a narrower engine si range for, as Mr Burnicle plained "speed still cre noise".
If the CVT is not availab production by the time any noise limits are enforced Mr Burnicle said that Lev will have to do "more of we have already done".
This will mean total engin, capsulation in many cases move towards more sounc sorbent (and heavier) dam materials.
