Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A ROADLINE UK driver who saved his valuable load when attacked by would-be thieves has been rewarded by ttie National Freight Consortium.

NFC chairman Peter Thompson presented Manchester driver Tom Curran with the 22nd Chairman's Award for Meritorious Service at a ceremony in the depot last week.

Mr Curran was attacked in Openshaw, Manchester, by three men who climbed into his cab, attacked him, and demanded the keys to the back of the vehicle. The cargo was a valuable load of spirits and cigarettes. Tom was able to sound the vehicle's alarm, despite suffering a cracked cheek bone and other facial injuries, and the attackers fled empty handed.

This is the second occasion on which 53-year-old Mr Curran's courage has been rewarded. He received a citation from the Lord Mayor of Manchester in 1980 after saving a boy from electrocution on a railway bridge.

• CM is still looking for names of heroes and knights among road transport drivers of all classes for our Mark Vane Memorial Award. If you know of anyone who might qualify, write now to the editor at Room 304, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey, SM2 5AS.
