Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers in the West Midlands still resisting the TGWU's demands for £2.50 hgv driving licence money are suffering great financial hardship on behalf of the whole industry, reports Road Way, the official RHA journal.

In an effort CO alleviate the financial problems of those who are already, or who will be. in distress, a fund has been

established and is being administered by an independent accountant in Birmingham.

Road Way is asking for urgent contributions to the fund which will be allocated at the discretion of the committee of the West Midland consortium of hauliers. The rules of the fund have been subjected to legal scrutiny and are available to RHA members wishing to make a contribution.

A report from the West Midlands on Tuesday confirmed that the consortium are still resisting payment of the hgv driving licence money. Strike action is still affecting six firms and others are suffering blacking at certain delivery points. The firm of Smith Brothers, Tamworth, which recently sacked all its drivers and sent their cards to the Ministry of Social Security has re-employed 28 of the men under new contracts.
