Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

N addition to models from the new Goliath range, two other vehicles on le stand of Guy Motors, Ltd., will be iaking a first appearance at Earls ourt. These are the Arab lightweight

eavy-duty underfloor-engined passennchassis and the Big Otter, powered 9 a Gardner 4LW oil engine.

The specification of the lightweight rub has been altered slightly since it as first announced in November, 1953, id this has resulted in a further reduc m in chassis weight of 1 cwt., bringing e dry-weight figure to 3 tons 181 cwt. he recommended gross vehicle weight 101 tons.

A Gardner 5HLW five-cylindered irizontal oil engine, developing 89 h.p. at 1,700 r.p.m. and 248 lb.-ft.

rque at 1,300 r.p.m. is now standard uipment, and has a three-point mount g in the frame. A four-speed constant esh gearbox, with ratios of 4.51, 2.83, 74 and 1 to 1, is mounted remotely mi the engine with a three-piece-shaft

nnection from the gear lever. A igle-dry-plate clutch is -fitted. Alter

tive units are a Gardner 6HLW engine d a five-speed gearbox with 0.746 1 overdrive.

The rear-axle final-drive gearing is of poid formation, with a standard ratio 5.43 to 1. Flexible couplings are now

.ed to the drive shaft between the itch and the engine, instead of the

edle-roller joints previously used. iple-vacuum-servo braking is retained, ernative equipment being triple-servo pressure units.

The capacity of the fuel tank has en reduced by 7 gallons to 28 gallons.

e cold-air intake for the radiator has itoneguard at its forward end.,

;mailer tyres are used on the front eels, the 9.00-20-in. (12-ply) covers awing a front-axle loading of 41 tons, ilst rear tyre equipment remains the ne, with 9.00-20-in. (10-ply) twins. e frame longitudinals have been luced slightly in section to 9; in. maximum depth, with a 21%-in. flange throughout.

The big Otter is rated for a payload of 71 tons and will be exhibited in a 14-ft. 9-in.-wheelbase form. Additional power is provided by fitting the Gardner 41.W engine, the standard Otter having either a Perkins P6 or a Gardner 4LK engine. The Gardner 4LW -engine has a 13-in, diameter clutch.

Mounted as a unit with the engine is a five-speed constant-mesh gearbox, with direct-drive top ratio, which drives the 6.33 to 1 ratio spiral-bevel rear axle through a two-piece propeller shaft. Girling two-leading-shoe brakes incor porate a Clayton Dewandre vacuum servo, the hand brake actuating the rearwheel units only.

The fuel-tank capacity is 24 gallons. which should allow a range of approximately 500 miles. Semi-elliptic springs are used for the suspension and helper leaves are fitted to the rear springs, Tyre equipment is 9.00-20-in. (12-ply) on both axles, with twin wheels at the rear. Cam-and-double-roller steering is specified and the electrical system is 12-volt.
