EDINBURGH SEEKS FARES REVISIONS

AN application by Edinburgh Transport Department seeking permission to revise certain fares was heard by the Scottish Licensing Authority, last week. Decision was reserved.

It was proposed to abolish the 6d. early-morning return, to make the maximum early return 4d., and to give two stages, instead of three, for 2d.

Mr. A. Thomson, for the corporation, said that the tram replacement programme was expected to be half completed at the end of the year, and fully completed by the end of 1956.

Expenditure, particularly on road reinstatement and the purchase of new motorbuses, could not be met wholly out of revenue. They would have to borrow money, but it was their view that some contribution to those charges should be made out of revenue.
