ISUZU TRUCK (UK) is to offer a new lightweight version of its 75-tonner for Euro-6, avoiding the weight penalty normally associated with the addition of SCR and the rest of the exhaust after-treatment system.
The new model's weight-saving unit comes courtesy of its use of the same 3-litre, 150hp engine as found in Isuzu's 3.5-tonne GVVV Grafter N35 models.
This is substantially lighter than the 5.2-litre, 190hp engine in the current Euro-5 N75.190.
According to Isuzu Truck (UK) marketing director Keith Child, this means the tare weight of a Euro-6 N75.150 will be the same as a Euro-5 N75.190.
"It will suit operators on local work and those for whom payload is critical. Me Euro-6 version of the 5.2-litre, 190hp engine will be there for those who want more power or have longer distances to cover," said Child. "We think our customers will welcome this new twin option solution at 7.5 tonnes. It also
means we will be able to offer the same engine in models from 3.5-tonne to 7.5-tonne GVVV." The additional emissions equipment on the N75.190 with the 5.2-litre engine will push up its weight at Euro-6 by 185kg compared with Euro-5. The first Euro-6 N75 models are due to arrive in the UK in January. Isuzu is also raising the plated gross
weights of its 5-tonne and 6.2-tonne GVVV chassis for Euro-6, preserving their payload capacities despite the new emissions kit. The plated weight of the 5-tonner goes up to 5.5 tonnes, while the 6.2-tonner becomes a 6.5-tonner. Child adds that the 11-tonne GVVV F110.210 continues at Euro-6 and could be joined by a 12-tonner too.
