Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

II The Freight Transport Association and haulage giant TDG have joined forces to promote and develop a driver development programme which is designed to help companies operate to higher standards and reduce their operating costs.

The industry-led 5 Star Driver Development Programme will give drivers training and information in

areas including forthcoming EU legislation and implementation of the Working Time Directive. Training will be paid for by companies on behalf of their drivers.

The programme is already in use with drivers of Sainsbury. Guinness and TDG-liveried vehicles.

"Requirements are such that continuous professional development is no longer a luxury," says FTA chief executive Richard Turner. "it's a must if we are to safeguard service levels and improve driving skills and the professional status of the truck driver."

TDC chief executive David Garman adds that the programme will meet a company's criteria for effective driver development, staff motivation and retention.
