Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

on a Magnum

• The first lifting mid-axle conversion of a Renault AE380 Magnum tractive unit has been carried out by JR Engineering of Bury St Edmunds.

Supplied by Thompson of Beverley, North Humberside to nearby haulier FD Eyre of Howden, the 4.12m wheelbase airsuspended unit is equipped with a Phoenix RK7000 cranked mid axle. The Weweller air suspension achieves 140mm of lift.

JRE has modified the Magnum's aluminium fuel tanks, halving their capacity to 700 litres to take the extra axle.

The Dayton Walther fifth wheel has also been modified.

The AE380 6x2 weighs nearly 8,700kg with full tanks, says Thompson. JRE is converting another AE380 to a tagaxled 6x2.

LI The first AE380 6x2 drawbar chassis to be sold to a UK operator is in service with Patricks (see next week's CM).
