THE NEW Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies at Oxford University, financed by a donation of £1.5m from the Nissan Motor Co, is "dedicated to improving mutual understanding between the UK and Japan" and to promoting" wider knowledge of modern Japan, especially Japanese politics, economy and society," I would like to be assured that Japan was anxious to learn as much about Britain and to be equally co-operative towards it.
