ASTATEMENT on the liquidation of Associated Road Transport Contractors, Ltd., was issued last week after invited Press representatives had been excluded from an "open" meeting in• London. • According to the statement, it was agreed that Artco should be re-formed on association lines, and that wider membership should be sought without dropping the principle of selected membership.

All former members would be invited to join the new Association, and particular efforts would be made to encourage Road Haulage Association operators to take part. The entrance fee would be 5s., together with a minimum subscription for the first year of £10 10s., covering vehicles up to a total of 50 tons carrying capacity. For every additional 10 tons an extra £1 Is. would be charged up to a maximum of £26 5s.

Mr. S. D. Powell, of T.S.P. Transport, Skewen, South Wales, was made a director following the resignation of Mr. D. H. McVeigh. Another meeting is to be held on November 28.

CLYDE BRIDGE WANTED.

PLANS for a new ferry to connect Greenock and Helensburgh have been abandoned by Dumbartonshire County Council in favour of a more ambitious scheme for a bridge or a tunnel across the Clyde. They are being supported by Renfrewshire County Council, and an estimate for the project is to be submitted to the Ministry of Transport.
