• John Prescott MP, who challenged Roy Hattersley for the deputy leadership of the Labour Party this year, has returned to his old job as shadow transport spokesman.
He took over last week from Scots MP Bob Hughes, who lost his seat in the Shadow Cabinet after a ballot among Labour MPs.
Prescott, who is MP for Hull East, was chief opposition spokesman on transport from 1983 to 1985, and took over the energy brief after Labour's election defeat last year.
