• Eastern Scottish Omnibuses has been ordered to pay the widow of one of the M6 coach crash victims 267,481 plus costs by the High Court.
Elizabeth Pidduck had sued the company for 276,728 damages because of the death of her 61-year-old husband, a retired Bank of England clerk, in the crash on 21 October 1985. Eastern Scottish had admitted liability, but had disputed the amount of damages to be paid.
The court was told that the accident happened about 11km south of the Forton Service Area, when a coach driven by John Bormyman drove into the back of a queue of slow-moving vehicles at 96km/h. Bonneyman had later been convicted of driving without due care and attention.
