JUDGING began last Friday for the 1984 Mark Vane Memorial Award. Eight nominations have been submitted to the panel and the result will be known in 10 days' time.

The judges will not be able to identify the man, his company or the vehicle from the submissions. Each will award a percentage mark to the entries. In the case of a tie, Kjell Hogstrom of Volvo, Sweden, will use his casting vote.

The winner will receive the Mark Vane Memorial Award at a presentation in London on December 12, before flying to Sweden, with a companion, for the festival of Santa Lucia. Those on the short list will receive diplomas of commendation.

The award, now in its second year, is cosponsored by CM and Volvo (GB). The judging panel is Lord Carmichael; Peter Fry, MP; Jack Ashwell, TGWU; Clive Jacobs, BBC; Bernt Brandtzaeg, managing director, Volvo (GB); and James Weymouth, publishing director of Commercial Motor.
